My state is currently affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. I have been in quarantine for six weeks. I, personally have enjoyed quarantine on some level. I want to share with you how I have tried to keep my productivity and mental health. I have certainly missed my friends and my family, that is for sure. As well as doing schoolwork and my usual at home activities, I have also tried some new things.
I have decided to use this time to learn all those things I have wanted to for so long but just never got around to. ( sound familiar? ) I encourage you all to, if you find yourself bored at home, try and find some new and creative activities to do. I will share some of my favorite quarantine activities to give you ideas, but other blogs and websites may provide even more information!
Keeping track:
No, I don't mean I have been scratching tallies on my wall with every day (or hour) that passes. I have been making sure to write in my journal during this whole time. It helps me to record my experiences (obviously) but also note and better understand my feelings. Basically, it helps me sort myself out.
I have kept a journal long before the COVID-19 pandemic, but since this is such a historic time I have decided to make sure I write more often. I'm sure many people have wanted to start journaling during this time and so I will make a post later about how you can start that if it feels overwhelming to you.
Staying spiritual:
As I stated in my bio, I am a Christian. My religion is a big part of my identity. I know that a very important part of my mental health right now is to stay in touch with God. I have been lucky that my church has had an online service but I know that many churches can't right now, so here are other ways to connect with God in a meaningful way:
- Read the bible- This one is obvious. The Bible is God's deliberate word to us and His instruction and teachings always bring me comfort in uncertain times. You could try getting a study bible that has little thoughts to go along with scripture and questions to ask to help you better understand it.
- Prayer- Another obvious one but sometimes I don't pay it enough attention. I like to pray as I am falling asleep, it helps me to sleep peacefully. Click here for different and unique ways to pray.
- Community- God gave us the church so that we can connect and discuss our thoughts on a Bible passage. Even though we are in quarantine we can still connect with others. We are lucky to live in a world filled with many forms of communication. You can video call, text, have a phone call and connect through social media! But if none of that is your thing, you can always write a letter! Click here for my instructions on how to be a good pen pal!
- Apps- There are many apps out there- some bad and some good. But did you know there are apps devoted to the Bible? Well there are many out there! My favorite though is the YouVersion Bible App, it is available on Apple and Android! This app contains many features, such as the Bible in more than 2000 versions, devotions and a social -media aspect where you can friend people and share the word of God with each other! It is all free to use!
- Worship music- This doesn’t have to be an old hymn from the 1800's! There are many modern and popular worship songs to God in all different styles! (Yes, even headbangers) Listening to or creating music is one very fun way to connect with God!
- Quiet time- Finally, you can just sit in the presence of our Lord. There are no materials needed in this time, just the attention of your heart and mind! You may want to go outside or to your bedroom but you will want it to be a peaceful place so that you can connect with God!
Remember! There is no right or wrong way to connect with our God. What God really wants is your time to hear His call and His obedience once you do!
