1 The Lord is my best friend and my shepherd.I always have more than enough.Psalm 23: 1I find it rather fitting that our first ever weekly encouragement (yay!) is about the rather famous Psalm 23. Growing up in my church, I have heard this Psalm many times, but it felt so fresh when I read it in The Passion Translation. Every thought felt even more real. I think scriptures that you hear as often as Psalm 23 tend to lose meaning. That is why I like to try out new versions every once in a while.
The first thing I would like to point out is how this translation uses the word “friend” to describe who God is to us. When I think of a friend I think of someone fun to hang out with who cares about me and helps me cope with life. The most important thing I think of though, is of the word confidant. “The Lord is my best friend and my shepherd.” The Lord cares about me. The Lord helps me cope with the worries of this world. The Lord is my greatest confidant. A confidant is not just someone who will keep your secrets, but wants to carry the load of your secrets with you. My shepherd will lead me where He knows ends in the right place. This doesn’t mean He will show us every step of the way all at once. Or even that He will reveal the steps one at a time. It may just mean He will shove us down the right path. It's just our job to follow when He shows us the next step, and not fight against Him when He shoves us, rather uncomfortably, into the next chapter of our life. Please leave in the comments below anything that God lays on your heart to share. Have a blessed day!
